Ahtopol is a very nice small fishing town with a harbour. The surrounding nature is sleepy and beautiful, the reefs wild. But this will soon change due to the fact that there is a yacht harbour in the person of modernity. It's supposed to be the third largest yacht harbour in the Mediterranean, with a large quay (they call it "horseshoe" in Bulgarian) and a new lighthouse. I'm sure prices will rise quickly afterwards when lots of yacht rich people come here. The beach at Ahtopol is one big one (north of town behind the reef) and lots of small sandy areas.

The area around Ahtopole is definitely worth a visit. There are interesting cliffs about 10 to 25 meters high around the breakwater, and coastal flat steppes on top of them. Pasture and sheep are the norm everywhere here. Here and there some woods. To the south, this landscape can be reached by a newly constructed hiking trail or the main road to Sinemorca. To the west of Ahtopol, about two kilometres further on, you can reach the hills of the Strandzha mountains, which have been a national park for a few years now, or, for example, the Veleka river, which flows slowly through the national park. To the north, from Ahtopol you can easily walk along the sea or by road to Varvara.
